Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers’ Association
Teacher Scholarship Application Deadline: Postmarked by February 1
Guidelines
1. The applicant must be a current member of the OFLTA and may apply during the third year of continuous membership or any subsequent consecutive year of the membership thereafter. Currently serving members of the Executive Board are ineligible for this award.
2. The applicant must furnish adequate documentation to satisfactorily establish the following: (a) that the proposed use of the scholarship funds will not duplicate previous training; (b) that there is financial need; and (c) that there is an imminent need for the new skills (such as a letter of commitment from a school administrator saying that the applicant will be assigned to teach in the area for the upcoming academic year).
3. The primary use of the scholarship money shall be for expenses incurred in an intensive language and/or culture program. In the event a recipient is unable to carry out the intensive program for the summer awarded, the scholarship money must be returned to the OFLTA.
4. The scholarship funds cannot be used simply for travel. (Exception: if the applicant has been accepted and has been funded from other sources to attend an intensive session as described in number 3 above, but lacks the means to travel to and from the location, the OFLTA scholarship may be used for this purpose.)
5. The setting for the intensive language training can be in the United States or abroad.
6. The training may be for credit or non-credit.
7. The applicant must submit a detailed plan of action and study (name of the institution, program cost, number of hours, etc.), along with the appropriate dates, places, times, and other schedules as necessary in order for the scholarship committee to make an intelligent judgment.
8. Recipients are required to submit a written summary of their program of study to the OFLTA Newsletter editor and must present an oral report to the general membership at the OFLTA annual conference.
