OFLTA Teacher of the Year The Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers’ Association (OFLTA) is proud to announce the Oklahoma Language Teacher of the Year competition. The Oklahoma recipient will compete at the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching (SWCOLT) in the spring for the Regional Language Teacher of the Year. The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) will then choose one of the 5 regional finalists to be named the National Language Teacher of the Year at their annual conference in November.
The award was developed to:
• Elevate the status of our profession at the state, regional, and national levels. • Promote our profession at the state, regional, and national levels. • Create media opportunities to increase the visibility of the importance of learning languages and cultures to the general public.

OFLTA Teacher of the Year Nomination Procedures
1. Nomination forms/cards will be available at the OFLTA Spring Conference. 2. During the business meeting of each OFLTA Spring Conference, the President shall allow attendees five minutes to review the nomination procedures. 3. OFLTA Vice President shall make sure that nomination forms/cards are available in the registration packets and on the tables during the business meeting. 4. Other nominations will be accepted until the last week in May. The nominees will submit the required documents as stated in the OFLTA Nominee Requirements by the last Friday in August. Nominees failing to meet the deadline or requirements will be disqualified. 5. The OFLTA membership will receive nominee information and a ballot via email the first Monday in September. Vice President shall create and send out the ballot. A hard copy of the ballot will go out with the Fall Conference mailing that will include the candidates’ biographical information and a picture of each candidate. Members shall be able to vote during the first two weeks in September. Voting will close at 11:59 pm on the second Friday in September. Ballots will be tallied by the Vice President. 6. The award recipient shall be notified by the Vice President on or before the third Friday in September and shall formally receive this award at the OFLTA Fall Business Meeting TBA. The award recipient shall have their registration paid for the fall conference. 7. The recipient will receive a packet containing portfolio requirements and a timeline for the Regional and National Language Teacher of the Year. The recipient must submit all required materials to the SWCOLT Teacher of the Year Chairperson, no later than January 10th of that year. 8. The recipient will receive $300 to attend the SWCOLT Conference.
